The Monthly Marketing Report Prompt
A month of numbers in a spreadsheet is not a report.
By Casey McClintic, founder. Updated 10/28/2026.
This prompt takes your Metricool or platform numbers one platform at a time, checks them back to you, finds the three biggest changes against last month, asks what you posted, and writes a report under 300 words a broker-owner reads in five minutes: the headline, what worked, what did not, and one thing to repeat, change and test. It only compares you to your own months.

How it works
Three steps.
- Copy the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, or open one with a click.
- Paste the month's numbers one platform at a time from Metricool or each platform's insights, and last month's if you have them.
- Confirm the table, name your three best posts, approve the report, and save the cleaned table to paste in next month.
Run it
ChatGPT and Claude open with the prompt pasted. Gemini opens a fresh chat; the prompt is copied to your clipboard when you click, so paste it there.
What happens in the chat
- Phase 1: the numbers. One platform at a time: posts, reach or views, interactions, follower change, clicks, and for Google calls, directions and website clicks. Plus last month's.
- Phase 2: the check. Every number shown back in a plain table beside last month. Anything that looks like a typo gets a question before the report is written.
- Phase 3: what changed. The three biggest moves up or down, in one plain sentence each, with the real numbers and no invented cause.
- Phase 4: what we did. Your three best posts, the listings or events that ran, and what you want to try next month.
- Phase 5: the report. Under 300 words in a fixed format, with one thing to repeat, one to change and one to test, and a cleaned table for next month.
What you end up with
- A report under 300 words the owner reads in five minutes
- The three biggest changes with the real numbers
- One thing to repeat, one to change, one to test
- A cleaned table of your numbers to paste in next month

FAQ
Questions, answered
Do I need Metricool?
No. Any platform's own insights work. The prompt asks for the same few numbers either way: what you published, how far it reached, how people interacted, and what happened to your followers. Metricool just puts them in one place.
Why does it only compare me to my own months?
Because your own last month is the fairest yardstick for your own account. The prompt will not quote an industry average from memory, since that is where made-up numbers come from. If you want a benchmark, paste a published study and its name, and the prompt will use it and say where it came from.
What if I do not have last month's numbers?
Run it anyway. The report will show this month on its own and say that nothing was provided to compare against. Save the cleaned table it hands back, and next month you will have something to compare to.
